The history of Bunnamwaya Catholic Parish stretches way back in 1920 with the establishment of Bunnamwaya Sub-Parish under the then Lubaga Mission. The Catholic community in Bunnamwaya has evolved out of a group of deeply devoted Christians that met every Wednesday to pray together. Over time this community grew and was able to access pastoral services in form of Mass once in a while (mostly on Easter Sunday) as well as visits from the then priest in charge of the community.

OUR story
The Church community continued to evolve and grow steadily over the years until the year 2000 when the then Sub-Parish leadership decided to nurture a bigger vision for the Bunnamwaya Catholic Community. They held their first leadership retreat at the Retreat Centre of the Sisters of Mary Reparatrix, Bugonga, Entebbe. It was during this retreat that the vision of a future Bunnamwaya Parish emerged. On 14th August 2004, Bunnamwaya was erected as a Parish by the then Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kampala, His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala almost two years ahead of what had been planned.
To date, the Parish is made up of 9 Sub-Parishes. Of these, eight are constituted by Parishioners that are physically resident in Bunnamwaya namely; Central, Ngobe, Nfuufu, Lufuka, Kisigula, Kitebi, Nankinga and Nyanama. The ninth Sub-Parish (St. Phillip) is made up of Parishioners that reside in other Parishes but pray from Bunnamwaya Parish especially under the Renewal Ministry.
Over the years, many things have changed. The overall demographic, social and economic context has changed. The religious and faith landscape has also evolved greatly. New needs as well as challenges, unforeseen at the time of establishing the Parish have emerged. Significant lessons have also been learnt over the years. Moving forward, there are evident threats as well as opportunities.

Bunamwaya Parish strives to be a vibrant community, anchored in Christ, a consolation for all.
